First I should say thanks to Joe Pokorney for his leadership as last year’s Fleet Captain. Great job, Joe.
Fellow members and cruisers, 2008 is going to be a great year for cruising. We have some great destinations in the fire (more on that later) and some new ideas, too. As many of the cruises as possible will start from the Club with the boats on the wall and everyone having dinner at VYC and a continental breakfast before we leave. Just adding another day to the fun.
Fleet Captains’ Luncheons will feature as many new programs as possible with speakers already lined up for February 5th and moving the luncheon to the 29th (from the 26th), so we can hear Claiborne Young speak on cruising the South West Florida coast. He’s the foremost authority on this.
As many of the cruises as possible will be set up to allow non-boating members to join us and stay in hotels at the destinations. Send me an email if you’re interested.
Our first cruise will be February 7th to the 10th to South Seas Resort and The Isles Yacht Club. Discover the joys of cruising our beautiful coast.
Thanks to Captain Ralph Searles for accepting the job as Assistant Fleet Captain.

Hope to see you soon on the water.

I would like to thank our past Fleet Captain - Sail, Bill Dowling for his efforts in promoting sailing. I am looking forward to keeping the momentum going and will have the help of Bob Senn and any of our members who would like to participate. For the coming year, we will be looking at activities such as inter club racing with FCYC members, destination racing, cruising with our “Power Boat” friends, and racing with the Venice Sailing Squadron.
By now I think most of you have heard about the generous donation by Mrs. Renee Paxton of a Ranger 33’ sailboat. The final paper work has not been completed but we expect to have “JOY” in the VYC fleet by early February. A survey is being sent to ask your interest in participating in the use of “JOY.” There are a few details to be worked out, and they will be completed shortly after we receive your survey input. I highly recommend that you respond very quickly as we expect to limit the use of “JOY” to only 12 members. Please make a reservation to join us on the first Thursday of every month at the Sailor’s Table.
